My $100,000 MISTAKE
I’ve always wanted to start my own business.
I have always fancied being my own boss and not having to ask another grown adult if I can take a day off to relax or to take care of a sick family member.
In 2015, my girlfriend at the time (ex-girlfriend now) received a small post card to attend a real estate seminar.
The post card was nicely designed and it says that the event normally has a price tag of about $2,000 to attend, but if we bring the postcard then we will get in for FREE.
Yes, you’ve guessed it. I went there…
I went with a friend and we both got really excited about the idea of getting in to the Real Estate Industry.
VERY QUICKLY
that FREE event start up-selling other programs for $500, $800, $1500, etc.
Next thing I know, days after that, I was sitting at a hotel conference room with other “Investors“.
Don’t get me wrong, what they’re saying are valuable, but I wish I would have been more disciplined and not worry about FOMO! (Fear Of Missing Out!)
Next thing I know, was getting taught how I can easily ask my bank to increase my credit limit. I had great credit so increasing it to roughly $40,000 more was piece of cake.
Only to realized that the next day, they are trying to sell us an even larger package ranging $20,000-$50,000 program, on top of there “smaller packages” ranging $1,000 – $5,000.
If you get the gist, that program taught/advised us how to successfully increase our credit limit so they can sell more programs to us. Surprise!
Well, I spent a lot. And I wanted to make it work.
On top of all those expenses, I was so committed in driving the business off the ground that I quit my software engineering job to give 100% of all my energy and effort in the business…
(Yes, I know! Please stop yelling at me.. now I know it was a dumb idea okay)
About a year had passed and everything added up.
And the next thing I know, I was in about $100,000 in credit card debt!
